Our client is large classified ads portal in Pakistan. It has more than 1,000,000 active ads and more than 200,000 daily page views. When we were reached by client, Solr was already in place for searching and navigation. It was having performance issues in queries and indexing. Solr used to crash frequently due to these issues. Client’s team lacked expertise required to scale up the Solr and fix performance issues. Our team performed audit of the implementation and identified several issues. We upgraded the Solr version to 5.x (which was latest) and fixed issues in schema, fine tune queries and cache. These steps resolved the performance issues and improved the stability of solr. We also helped client to better manage servers for better utilization and database migration to newer MySql version. You can see search in action here
