Sphinx Search for OsCommerce based User Manuals Search Engine

Our client is website which sells digital user and repair manuals for cars, industrial vehicles, electronics and electrical appliances and had catalog of more than 300,000 manuals.  The website is based on osCommerce which is heavily customized. To find their desired manual, the best way for users was to use search. The default osCommerce search was not producing good results and was very slow. Servers were not able to handle load of searches and website was slow overall and used to crash frequently. We replaced default osCommerce full text search with Sphinx Search. This resulted in accurate and fast search results. Due to faster and accurate results the click conversion from search pages increased so did the sale. Sphinx Search also helped reducing load on server and increased site stability. We also provided server  performance optimization and implemented cache using Memcache and MySQL query optimization. The database was having issues as it was using MyISAM. On any updates performed on db the site would halt for users. We migrated database from MyISAM to innodb. We Fine tuned innodb for best performance. This resulted in improved availability and scalability of the site which resulted in more sales on site.
